Ebury has netted Joyrider: Your Zero Bullshit Guide to Gratitude by broadcaster and podcaster Angela Scanlon.
Senior commissioning editor Yvonne Jacob acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Amanda Harris, director of publishing at YMU, in a two-book deal. Ebury will publish Joyrider in spring 2022.
The book is billed as a “brilliant (and brilliantly sweary) exploration of the power of the humble thank you”. Its synopsis explains: “With her refreshing and unique authorial style, Angela will explore the profound spiritual power of gratitude and its practical, literal benefits. She’ll show readers how focusing their attention on the little positives can lead to big changes for the better, and how such simple—and free—mental recalibrations can provide a new and successful approach to anxiety management and wellbeing.”
Scanlon, who hosts the hit “Thanks A Million” podcast, said: “The world has gone to shit and it is hard not to freak out. Instead of getting lost in the endless news stream I have been getting down and dirty with gratitude. It’s a concept I’ve been fascinated by for years and I want to share the profound effect it’s had on my life. If lockdown has taught us anything it’s that we need to focus on the good stuff now more than ever before—and once you start looking, it’s everywhere.”
Jacob added: “Angela is a brilliantly fresh and authentic new voice in the wellbeing space, and I couldn’t be more grateful to be publishing her ode to joy. She invites us all to embrace the kind of gratitude that cuts through the bullshit of life to its truth, connecting us with the present and grounding us in self.”
