Ebury Press has bagged the first cookbook in 10 years by Ainsley Harriott to tie-in with his latest primetime ITV series.
Lizzy Gray, illustrated publishing director bought world rights in all languages from Jeremy Hicks Associates. Ainsley’s Caribbean Kitchen will be published on 11th July in hardback.
The book will feature 80 dishes inspired by Caribbean culture and featured in the show. The publisher explained: “Recipes include baked cauliflower with black beans and coconut, chargrilled watermelon with sunshine slaw and honey orange dressing, jerk snapper with okra salsa, barbecued lime breeze prawns and, of course, Ainsley’s ultimate jerk chicken. In addition, there are delicious puddings – banana tarte tatin with spiced rum cream and lime-glazed pineapple with passion fruit vanilla cream. The book would not be complete without some ideas for a Caribbean- style sundowner or two – from a bitter orange and caradamom Martini inspired by Ian Fleming to Ainsley’s mum’s rum punch.”
Harriott, best known for programmes like “Ready Steady Cook”, “Ainsley’s Barbecue Bible” and “Meals In Minutes”, said: “Food is an integral part of Caribbean life and, as such, was an important part of my childhood. I have wonderful memories of helping my mum cook and experiencing the patience and love that went into the food. Our house was always busy with family, visiting relatives and friends. They were welcomed and brought with them laughter and music. We would all sit down to enjoy mum’s delicious Caribbean spiced food and it was always a generous and shared experience. Seeing all those happy people enjoying the food together is probably the main reason I became a chef.”
