Ebury Press has scooped Sama Sama, a book of mixed-Malaysian recipes and "heartfelt tales of self-discovery" from Malaysian-Scottish chef Julie Lin.
Nell Warner brought world all language rights from Thomas Small at LUX Illuminating Brands, and the book will be published in hardback on 1st May 2025.
"In Malay, sama sama (‘same same’) is a way of saying ‘you’re welcome’ to reinforce the idea of togetherness and equality in this everyday exchange," the synopsis says. "Through 90 delicious recipes, Sama Sama celebrates all the parts of Julie’s identity (Malaysian, Chinese and Scottish) with heart-warming stories of food and self-discovery, reminding us that food is the thread that ties us all together."
Warner said: "Julie and her food are one and the same — full of fun, joy and a refreshing sense of authenticity. Her cooking challenges and comforts in the best of ways and I can’t wait to share this treasure of a book with the world."
Lin added: "At its heart, Sama Sama invites you to dissolve borders, add your own ideas and creativity and eat what your heart truly desires. This book is a testament to the love I have for my friends and family, who have profoundly influenced my cooking journey. In my culture, cooking for someone is the ultimate expression of love, and the idea is Sama Sama beautifully intertwines this emotion with the joy of cooking."
