Ebury Press has signed the letters i will never send, a collection of poems by TikTok poet Isabella Dorta.
Commissioning editor Sam Crisp acquired world rights directly from the author for publication on 16th March. Dorta shared her first poem online in May 2021 and has amassed a following of more than 700,000, with millions of views of her videos.
Dorta self-published her first book, how sunflowers bloom under moonlight. Ebury said: “Isabella’s work draws on the difficult experiences of disordered eating, loss and trauma and serves as a first step to healing by helping readers articulate their feelings, starting conversations with loved ones and reaching out for help.
“With over 100 poems written in the form of letters addressed to influential figures in your life—your younger self, your future self, your body, your lover, your family, the people who have hurt you and more—the letters i will never send urges us to leave nothing unsaid with impactful poems on love, heartbreak, mental health and self-discovery. Readers are encouraged to tear pages from the book to share or write their own to send out into the world.”
Crisp said: “Isabella’s work is incredibly special: moving and deeply personal with a mission that encourages individuals to reach out for help and shine a light on experiences that are often so difficult to articulate. This is Rupi Kaur meets Burn After Writing (Pop Press) and we are so excited to be publishing this as a book to bring comfort and solidarity to readers.”
Dorta said: “This book is everything I wish I said to the people who either loved or hurt me. It is heartbreak, it is love, it is loss and it is strength. Between the front cover and the last page, I hope for every reader to find themselves hidden among my poems.”
