Following Yotam Ottolenghi’s "era-defining" Ottelenghi Simple and Ottolenghi Flavour, Ebury has signed the latest from the restaurateur with Ottolenghi Comfort.
Former deputy publisher Lizzy Gray acquired world all-language rights, excluding the US, from Felicity Rubinstein at Lutyens & Rubinstein. The deal for US and Canada rights was struck with Penguin Random House US and Kim Witherspoon at Inkwell. Rights have also been sold in Germany (DK Verlag), the Netherlands (Fontaine), France (Hachette), Denmark (Lindhardt og Ringhof), Poland (Filo), Brazil (Companhia das Letras) and French Canada (KO Editions). The cookbook will be published on 5th September 2024.
Ottolenghi has sold just over 1.8 million units for £35.9m via Nielsen BookScan TCM. This includes the Ottolenghi Test Kitchen books that he has a co-writing credit on. Ottolenghi SIMPLE is his bestseller on just over 439,000 copies for £7.9m.
“This is Yotam’s most personal book since Jerusalem”, said Joel Rickett, managing director. “Always pushing forward, he brings us irresistible recipes that are both nostalgic and novel, reimagining classics with Ottolenghi twists. Ottolenghi is loved everywhere, so expect a major international campaign and author tour across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia."
Ottolenghi Comfort features over 100 recipes, including "classic new takes" on pasta, potatoes, tray bakes and soups and is a compiliation of work from Ottolenghi, Helen Goh, Verena Lochmuller and Tara Wigley "as they bring their own memories, childhoods and travels to explore what comfort food means to them".
Ottolenghi said: “In this book we offer dishes which feel familiar yet fresh. It is also very much about our personal journeys, and all the stories these journeys contain. Food and words have an incredible power to connect. Our hope is that these recipes become for you what they are for us: reassuring on the one hand but revelatory on the other.”
