Ebury Spotlight will publish Tour de Force, Mark Cavendish's "dramatic personal account" of how he equalled the record for the most Tour de France stage wins of all time.
Andrew Goodfellow, publisher, acquired world rights from David Luxton of David Luxton Associates and Duncan Ross at Wasserman. Publication is scheduled for 25th November 2021.
The synopsis reads: "Just how did Mark Cavendish, the greatest sprint cyclist of all time, return aged 36 from being seemingly dead and buried to, in July 2021, become the Tour de France's most successful ever stage winner? Despite winning an astonishing 30 stages of the Tour de France, before July this year the Manxman had not won a stage of a grand tour in Italy, Spain or France since 2016. Yet the 2021 Tour was an incredible triumph over adversity that reduced both him and his teammates to tears. Cycling greats are never content and Mark's dogged determination and inner strength had earned him the record that many wished he would achieve. The crowning achievement of a dazzling cycling career."
Cavendish said: "This year’s Tour de France was as incredible as it gets. I can’t remember a more emotional three weeks in my cycling life and I really wanted to share the full story of what it was about with the fans. Not just the in-the-saddle drama that was captured on screen, but all the hidden drama that came before and during to make it such a pivotal moment in my career."
Goodfellow commented: "We’ve been publishing Mark since he was a boy racer and we are thrilled to be going with him to the finishing line of his now monumental career. Cav always tells it like it is, has a near photographic memory and unbelievable insight into both his sport and himself which makes his books the most incredible heart-thumping reads. As everyone knows Cav is all about the sprint and we’ll be joining in with this latest one for Christmas 2021."
