Ebury Spotlight has scored Wimbledon: A Personal History from tennis and television "legend" Sue Barker.
Editorial director Lorna Russell acquired world all-language rights from David Luxton at DLA, on behalf of Lizzie Stafford at M&C Saatchi Merlin. Publication is scheduled for 6th June 2024.
Wimbledon is "tightly packed" with stories drawn from Barker’s own experiences and insights and those of her former mentors, "giants of the game", and friends and colleagues including John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert. Exploring memorable matches, rivalries, "unforgettable" triumphs and upsets, Barker looks at what sets this tennis tournament apart from the others.
Russell said: "Sue is a brilliant storyteller with an extraordinary bank of her own vivid memories going back 50 years, and through her own research she’s uncovered glorious gems from the tournament’s deeper history. Her unique perspective and insight brings it all so alive. She finds tiny detail in the biggest dramas, and through her eyes we see and understand the game’s star champions as vulnerable humans – going through great success and sometimes crushing disappointment. This is such a riveting read and we are so proud to be publishing it."
