My Years with the Queen and Other Stories by Lady Pamela Hicks, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, bridesmaid and lady-in-waiting, has gone to Ebury Spotlight.
Former publishing director Sara Cywinski acquired world all-language rights to the “intimate, nostalgic and celebratory memoir” from Adrian Sington at Kruger Cowne, with publication scheduled for 13th April 2023. An audiobook edition, narrated by the author’s daughter and King Charles III’s god-daughter, India Hicks, will be released simultaneously by Penguin Random House Audio.
Lady Pamela was by the side of Queen Elizabeth II for some of the most important moments of her life, the publisher’s synopsis begins. She attended her Coronation and accompanied the royal couple as a lady-in-waiting on several overseas tours, including the 1952 tour when news of King George IV’s death broke, and also the Royal Commonwealth Tour of 1953–54.
It continues: “But as first cousin to the Duke of Edinburgh and second cousin to the Queen, she spent time with them in more relaxed settings too, and enjoyed the lifelong privilege of knowing them as simply Philip and Lilibet.
“My Years with the Queen is a celebratory and deeply personal story of the events, values and loyalties which have defined Lady Pamela’s life, as well as an unequalled portrait of the Queen."
Hicks said: “Queen Elizabeth was a marvel; loyal, wise and knowledgeable. She served in a role she had not asked for with an unswerving sense of duty. She was also tremendously funny. I am glad to celebrate her in my forthcoming memoir.”
Editor Claire Collins said: “Lady Pamela has lived an extraordinary life and in this charming and insightful memoir, she gifts readers a front-row seat on some of the most important events in 20th-century royal history. We are proud to publish her incredible story, which is also a joyous celebration of the nation’s longest-serving monarch.”
