Ebury Spotlight has signed Lucky by former “Made in Chelsea” star Louise Thompson.
Publishing director Charlotte Hardman acquired world all-language rights from Sarah Fallarino and Harry Grenville at Insanity Group. Publication is scheduled for 28th March 2024.
In her memoir, Thompson reveals her traumatic birthing experience when she suffered severe complications after an emergency C-section. She ended up fighting for her life over a number of days while her son was taken into neonatal intensive care.
The publisher said: “Louise writes with raw honesty about how this terrifying experience impacted her mental health in a way that changed her life and how she has rebuilt herself step by step, while processing what happened to her. Louise also reflects back on her life, from her childhood, through to her struggles with alcohol and toxic relationships and her rollercoaster years on ‘Made in Chelsea’. Though still on a road to recovery, Louise is determined to come out more alive than ever, and her powerful story will inspire so many people, including those who have been through devastating hardships.”
Hardman said: “Lucky is a very special memoir: beautifully told with a generous honesty and rich with emotion, it is incredibly inspiring and shows the remarkable human ability to overcome even the hardest of physical and mental challenges. I’m very proud of Louise for telling her story and I’m grateful to Louise for trusting us to help her share it.”
Thompson added: “I finally feel ready to share my story with the world. Writing my story has given me a form of closure, as I’m closing one chapter and getting ready to enter a new one. I talk about ‘old’ Louise in the book: my upbringing, my relationships and my work, and the trauma of what happened to me during and after the birth of my son, my recovery and ultimately my future as ’new’ Louise. I don’t really hold back, and one of my main hopes is that my story will help somebody. Writing this book has been a form of therapy for me when I’ve had nothing else.”
