Welsh actor and singer Luke Evans’ biography Boy from the Valleys has been acquired by Ebury.
Spotlight publishing director Charlotte Hardman acquired world all-language rights from Millie Hoskins at United Agents.
Boy from the Valleys will be published in hardback, ebook and audiobook on 7th November 2024.
Evans grew up in a small village in the Rhymney Valley, south Wales, as a Jehovah’s Witness. His book recounts his decision to leave his home, family – and religion – behind at 17 to move to London to become a singer and actor.
Evans said: “I am humbled and excited to share this deeply personal story of my early life growing up in the valleys of Wales. Grappling with the journey of self-discovery as an isolated, young gay man with big dreams of becoming an actor and singer, I reflect on the experiences that have shaped who am I today and celebrate the people along the way who encouraged me. I’m forever grateful to Charlotte, Millie and Ebury Spotlight guiding me along the way of bringing my book to life."
Evans starred in West End productions including "Miss Saigon", "Avenue Q" and "Rent", going on to secure roles in films including "The Hobbit", "Beauty and the Beast", "Fast and Furious" and "Dracula Untold", as well as the Nine Perfect Strangers TV series.
Hardman said: “I was struck by Luke’s love for storytelling and it has been a real joy to watch him embrace the process of writing this very honest and heartfelt book.
"Despite the Hollywood world he is now a part of, his story is a very real one and the stories of his Welsh valleys upbringing are beautifully told.”
