Egmont has announced new developments for Andy Stanton, including a new fiction series and a repackaging of the Mr Gum series.
The new 7+ series, due to launch this July, is entitled ‘The Paninis of Pompeii’ and is about a “fart-trader” called Caecilius, his wife Vesuvius, his son Filius, his servant Slavius and the family dog, Barkus Wooferinicum.
Fiction commissioning editor Liz Bankes acquired world rights to three books from Eve White Literary Agency and has hired Sholto Walker to illustrate.
Egmont is also repackaging Stanton’s Mr Gum series in May ahead of a the theatre adaptation opening at the National Theatre in July. Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear, scripted by Stanton, will see see Polly and Friday attempt to rescue Padlock the bear from the clutches of Mr Gum and Billy William III.
All of the publishing will be accompanied by a year-long marketing and publicity campaign.
Bankes said “As the very proud publishers of Natboff [also by Stanton] and Mr Gum, a series that has already hooked one generation of children on reading, we are utterly thrilled with this incredible programme of publishing for Andy this year.”
