Young adult publisher Electric Monkey has acquired Lady’s Knight, the first in “a hilarious queer medieval fantasy” series from New York Times-bestselling authors Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner.
Editorial director Liz Sellen-Bankes acquired UK and Commonwealth Rights to two novels from Christabel McKinley at David Higham Agency on behalf of Tracey and Josh Adams at Adams Literary.
Lady’s Knight will be published simultaneously in the UK, US and Australia in June 2025, with US rights sold to Tara Weikum at Harper US and Australian rights sold to Anna McFarlane at Allen & Unwin.
Award-winning YA authors Kaufman and Spooner previously collaborated on the New York Times-bestselling Starbound series and their Unearthed duology.
Sellen-Bankes said: “As the UK’S number one YA publisher, we only publish those voices that knock us out. Amie and Meagan’s fresh, funny, feminist take on medieval fantasy—packed with magic, sizzling romance and excellent snacks—is doing something truly different while also speaking to the romantasy and cosy fantasy fandom that these YA superstar authors know so well. We couldn’t be prouder to be the UK champions for these bold Lady Knights!”
Kaufman and Spooner said: “Lady’s Knight is hands down the most fun we’ve ever had writing together, and we were determined to find the right home for it. We were lucky enough to have several suitors vying for our hands, but the Electric Monkey team immediately stole our hearts with their creative pitch and medieval costumes. They were instantly on board with the book’s gleefully anachronistic humour, not even batting an eye at the mention of crocodiles in the castle moat or cheerleaders riling up the jousting tournament spectators. And, of course, they were just as enamoured of Gwen and Isobelle’s love story as we are, so we knew we were home.”
Weikum said: “I was immediately captivated by how strong and unique the voice is in Lady’s Knight, blending a fantastic modern sensibility with unexpected wit and irreverence. This fresh, fun, and flirty take on the England of Arthurian legend will keep readers hooked.”
The sequel is set to be published in June 2026.
