Electric Monkey scoops I V Marie’s ‘darkly delicious’ début
Electric Monkey has bought TikTok star I V Marie’s dark academia début, Immortal Consequences, which has ignited a flurry of international rights deals.
Editorial director Sarah Levison and editorial assistant Aleena Hasan secured UK and Commonwealth rights from Stephanie Thwaites and Grace Robinson at Curtis Brown, on behalf of Ariele Fredman and Gwen Beal at United Talent Agency. Immortal Consequences is scheduled to publish in the UK and US in summer 2025. A second book will follow in 2026.
International rights have also been sold by Savanna Wicks at Curtis Brown to territories including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, and to Lydia Gregovic at Delacorte Press, Penguin Random House in the US.
The début is pitched by Electric Monkey as “the perfect next read for fans of Olivie Blake’s The Atlas Six and Naomi Novik’s A Deadly Education”.
The publisher added: “Told from the multiple points of view of six tortured teenagers at a boarding school set in purgatory, Immortal Consequences features rivals-to-lovers romance, unlikely found family and angsty queer romance.”
The blurb reads: “At Blackwood Academy, students compete for the chance to participate in the Decennial once every decade. The winner has the chance to make the ultimate choice – cross over to the other side, or remain at Blackwood forever in an elevated position of power.
“But this Decennial, dark shadow magic stretches its tendrils around Blackwood. Marie was born and raised in Miami and now lives in Los Angeles. She has gained a significant following on social media, particularly on TikTok, where her BookTok videos on dark academia, fantasy and romance have more than 200k likes.
