Elliott & Thompson has signed Politics, But Better: An A – Z guide to creating a more hopeful future by Tatton Spiller, the founder of Simple Politics.
Publishing director Sarah Rigby and senior editor Pippa Crane acquired world English language rights to the “manifesto for rediscovering the heart of our democracy and reshaping our political system” from Charlotte Atyeo at Greyhound Literary. The book will be published in hardback and e-book on 7th September 2023.
In Politics, But Better, Spiller will “examine the very fabric of our system and what improvements can be made for a better, more compassionate world” by exploring 26 issues in UK politics, from A to Z – including censorship, elections, insults and U-turns, clearly laying out the problems and challenges we face, and putting forward possible solutions. “It will encourage us to question the status quo and chart a path towards a more hopeful future,” the publisher says.
Crane said: “With so much negativity in our politics – and the world – right now, it can be tough to see a way forward to better times ahead. Tatton’s calm, friendly and above all hopeful approach to politics is exactly what we need to show us that there’s another way – a better way – to do things. We’re thrilled to be publishing Politics, But Better, and hope that it will shine a ray of positivity and inspiration into readers’ lives.”
Spiller commented: “I’m involved with writing about politics every day. It’s so easy to be trapped into some kind of miserable spiral into depths of despair. This book has been the opposite of that. An opportunity to write about the wonderful world we could be living in. A world of hope and dreams. Every word I’ve written here has bought me a beautiful sense of joy. I couldn’t be more excited for the world to be able to read it.”
