Elliott & Thompson has landed Luck of the Draw: My Story of the Air War in Europe, the true story behind the upcoming Apple TV+ series "Masters of the Air", by Frank Murphy.
Executive publisher Robin Harvie acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Imogen Bovill at Abner Stein on behalf of CAA. The book will be published on 5th October 2023 with a foreword from Murphy’s daughter Elizabeth Murphy and his granddaughter, Chloe Melas.
Luck of the Draw is Murphy’s memoir and "incredible" story as one of the few bomber pilots who survived a German prisoner of war camp after his plane was shot down. He was awarded the Prisoner of War Medal, the Purple Heart and the Air Medal. Murphy’s story and that of his 8th Force’s 100th Bomb Group is also being adapted by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks in the Apple TV+ series "Masters of the Air".
Harvie commented: "Luck of the Draw takes you right into the fire and fury of the bombing missions over Germany, and provides a visceral picture of what these incredibly courageous young men did to help defeat Nazi Germany."
Melas added: "My grandfather once told me he spent the rest of his life walking with ghosts but looking back with pride. Our family’s goal is to keep Frank’s memory and that of his fellow men alive and pass on the greatness to the next generation. For that reason I am so excited to see Luck of the Draw published in the UK, so we can continue to share his story far and wide."
