Elliott & Thompson has landed an "essential" exploration of the geopolitics of space by Tim Marshall.
Director Jennie Condell acquired world rights, including audio, for Space directly from the author. The book will be published in April 2023.
Space is billed as “the essential read on power, politics and the future of humanity”, with Marshall laying bare the new geopolitical realities to show how we got here and where we’re going, covering the new space race, great-power rivalry, technology, economics, war and what it means for all of us on earth.
The synopsis reads: “Spy satellites orbiting the moon; space metals worth more than most countries’ GDP; people on Mars within the next 10 years. This isn’t science fiction. It’s astropolitics. With space set to dominate military thinking – and headlines – around the world, it’s clear that the next 50 years will change the face of global politics. It’s no coincidence that Russia, China and the US are leading the way.”
Marshall’s Prisoners of Geography: Ten Maps That Tell you Everything You Need To Know About Global Politics (Elliott & Thompson) and The Power of Geography: Ten Maps that Reveal the Future of Our World (Elliott & Thompson) have sold 666,871 and 140,191 copies in paperback respectively through Nielsen BookScan in the UK.
Condell commented: “The new space race is going to be one of the biggest and most important geopolitical stories in the coming decades, and I can’t think of anyone better to explain it than Tim Marshall. Tim’s stellar success is testament to his unique ability to make these complicated issues accessible, interesting and, yes, entertaining. Like all Tim’s books, this is more illuminating than anything else I’ve seen on the subject. It’s going to be the only book any of us need to read to understand the shape of things to come. We can’t wait to get it into readers’ hands.”
Marshall added: “Space and politics – they’ve been intertwined for a long time now, and understanding our road to the heavens is essential if we’re to grasp what the future might hold. Astropolitics is something we’ll all need to know about sooner rather than later. I am looking forward to working with Elliott & Thompson and our many excellent booksellers to tell people about it.”
