Elliott & Thompson has signed Environomics: How the Green Economy is Transforming Your World, an "accessible" introduction to the green economy, from Dharshini David, chief economics correspondent at the BBC.
Elliott & Thompson director Jennie Condell and editorial director Pippa Crane commissioned and acquired world rights from Mary Greenham at News Presenters. The book will be published in hardback, audio and e-book on 20th June 2024.
In Environomics, David follows the course of an average day "to reveal the green changes that are already taking place in every aspect of our world". "From sustainable materials and corporate greenwashing to industrialisation and global trade wars, exploring industries such as energy, food, fashion, technology, manufacturing and finance, she shows how even the smallest details in our day have a larger role to play in the drive towards creating a greener economy," the publisher said.
Condell commented: "There’s a revolution happening in our understanding of green issues but what does that mean for our economies, our lives? Dharshini David is a born communicator and this book is truly eye-opening. She shows how nearly every aspect of our daily routine tells a global story as all of us –businesses, governments, people like you and me – come to terms with the pressing need to adapt to a greener future. This book is essential reading for anyone who is curious about how our world works now and where it’s heading."
David added: "There’s a lot of talk of Net Zero targets, less of how we get there. With Environomics, I’m excited to be exploring the economic forces that will shape that process. Between a pandemic, a global cost-of-living crisis and geopolitical upheaval, our world has been thrown into turmoil in just a few short years. As consumers, we may feel like environmental targets are further out of reach, our individual actions futile or that they’ve had to slip down the priorities list. We’ve faced a new set of challenges on this journey – but also discovered opportunities. I’m looking forward to sharing those with readers, and highlighting the progress that often slips below the radar."
