London-based independent Elliott & Thompson is publishing Worth Dying For: The Power and Politics of Flags by Tim Marshall, former diplomatic editor of Sky News.
German rights have already been sold to Andrea Wörle at Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag via Louisa Pritchard Associates.
Worth Dying For follows Prisoners of Geography, which according to publishers has sold 15,000 copies in hardback in the UK since July. It was a New York Times bestseller in the US and a bestseller in Germany, with rights also sold to Spain, Turkey, Taiwan, Japan and Korea.
In Worth Dying For Marshall unravels the past and the present to provide insight into the power of flags and their symbolism that continues to unite and divide us.
Worth Dying For will be published as a hardback in September 2016. A revised and updated paperback edition of Prisoners of Geography will be published in June 2016.
Publisher Jennie Condell said: "Tim has established himself as an unrivalled communicator of the complexities of foreign affairs. Worth Dying For captures the same winning combination of deeply informed analysis with the popular touch that makes Tim’s writing so distinctive, and the subject has never been more potent as the symbols of terrorism and counter-terrorism proliferate online. We are delighted to be publishing yet another landmark book with Tim."
Marshall is a leading authority on foreign affairs with more than 25 years of reporting experience. Before he was diplomatic editor at Sky News, he worked for the BBC and LBC/IRN radio. He has reported from 30 countries and covered conflicts in Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Israel. His blog Foreign Matters was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize 2010.
