Elliott & Thompson has scooped a new "inspirational" story of a bird lover turned nature-warrior by activist Hannah Bourne-Taylor.
The novel follows how Hannah, without campaigning experience, funding or contacts, set out to save swifts from extinction in the UK.
Her mission is to change the law and make “swift bricks” mandatory so that the birds who nest in our walls will have a future in Britain. Publisher Katie Bond bought World rights to Nature Needs You: The Fight to Save Our Swifts from Sophie Lambert at C&W Agency for publication in May 2025.
Bond said: “Hannah Bourne-Taylor is a wonderful writer and an extraordinarily brave nature campaigner. Nature Needs You tells the compelling and inspirational story of how Hannah set out to save swifts and how passion really is a superpower.”
Bourne-Taylor, conservationist and campaigner, said: “I created my solo, unfunded campaign to try to stop swifts from becoming nationally extinct, launching it with my naked Feather Speech in London. Elliott & Thompson’s publisher Katie Bond was in the crowd that day, so it felt extra special to turn this personal political drama into the heartfelt book it has become with Elliott & Thompson’s vision and expert care. Through my love for birds, I have connected with many like-minded people, so I am very happy that Nature Needs You: The Fight to Save Our Swifts will offer further opportunity for connection, action and hope.”
Nature Needs You: The Fight to Save Our Swifts will be published by Elliott & Thompson in hardback and e-book on 1st May 2025.
