Embla Books, the digital-first commercial fiction imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has signed a deal for two more books with crime author and former police detective Caroline Mitchell.
Publishing director Jane Snelgrove acquired world English language rights for all formats from Madeleine Milburn at the Madeleine Milburn Literary, Film & TV Agency.
The first title is The Bone House – the “chilling” third title in Mitchell’s Slayton thriller series. The synopsis reads: “When hundreds of birds fall like a black cloud into Slayton’s lake, the phenomenon is labelled an anomaly of nature. But Cora Hart knows exactly what it is: the start of the reckoning... And when the lake is dredged and the skeletal remains of an infant are found, Detective Sarah Noble is called to investigate."
The Bone House will be published in e-book, paperback and audio in April, with another book to follow in 2024.
Mitchell said: "I’m thrilled at the prospect of working with my highly talented editor, Jane Snelgrove, and Embla Books again. They are an incredible team of people with genuine passion for each and every book. Thanks also to my agent, Madeleine Milburn, and her team for brokering this deal. I’m very excited to continue our journey together on all fronts.”
Snelgrove described Mitchell as “a master at her craft” and said the series was set to go from strength to strength. “It is a delight to work together and I know readers are going to love The Bone House,” she said.
Milburn added: “It has been clear from the very beginning that Embla Books and Caroline’s editor, Jane Snelgrove, are the perfect home for the Slayton series, and I am incredibly proud of all that they have achieved together. The Bone House is going to delight fans of the series and I am thrilled to see its continued success.”
