HarperCollins has announced the title of the “conversation-starting” new novel from Sunday Times bestselling author Emma Gannon.
It is the second in a two-book deal announced in 2019 and follows her debut novel Olive. Following the news that Gannon will be a Women’s Prize judge for 2025, the title is being announced to her 58,000 Substack subscribers at "The Hyphen".
HarperCollins said: “Full of warmth and wit, Table for One is a searching, celebratory novel about the unexpected joys of spending time alone. The story follows a woman called Willow who’s supposedly nailing her 30s—she has the steady partner, the successful career, the grown-up house—until suddenly she isn’t.
“And she’s staring down the barrel of a life that looks completely unfamiliar, all the while her friends are busy ‘moving forwards’. What follows is an empowering journey. One moment at a time, and with the help of an unexpected friendship, Willow heals from heartbreak and rekindles the relationship she secretly craves but has long neglected: the one with herself.”
Publishing director Charlotte Brabbin said: “This a novel with incredible main character energy. The warmth and relatability of Emma’s storytelling draws you effortlessly into Willow’s world, and holds up a mirror to anyone who’s feeling lost or ‘less than’. Whether you’re single-minded or happily coupled-up, the messages about self-love in the novel are universal—and we can’t wait to get readers booked at Table for One next spring.”
Gannon said: “My heart is very much in this novel about intergenerational friendships and how watching someone else take up space can have such a positive ripple effect on our lives. I hope this book can keep many people company as they enjoy their very own Table for One.”
