The Emma Press has acquired world rights to Cloud Soup, the second poetry collection from Kate Wakeling, in a deal made directly with the author.
The collection is aimed at readers aged nine plus and will feature illustrations by Elīna Brasliņa. It will encouraged readers to look more closely at clouds, water, dust and trees, and to reflect on the "bigger and knottier" areas of life, says the publisher.
The Emma Press published Wakeling’s Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry AwardpPrize-winning debut collection, Moon Juice, in 2016. It will be reissued with a new cover design alongside the new collection on 10th June 2021.
Press founder Emma Wright said: "It’s been a joy seeing Moon Juice gain so many loyal fans in the last few years, and I couldn’t be happier to publishing the sequel. Kate and Elīna are a dream team, and it has been an utter pleasure seeing the poems and then the illustrations come in bit by bit."
Wakeling commented: "I’m thrilled to be publishing Cloud Soup with The Emma Press. I hope the book feels as playful and nourishing to read as it did to work on. It has also been a great delight to collaborate with Elīna again and I'm once more amazed by her magical, witty and instinctive illustrations."
