Headline has signed Believe: How I Learned to Step into my Power by Leigh-Anne Pinnock, singer, songwriter and member of the British girl band Little Mix.
Former senior commissioning editor Katie Packer, who is now at Trapeze, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) and Europe rights from Matilda Forbes-Watson, William Morris Endeavour Ent. The in-house editor is Yvonne Jacobs and the book – co-written with author and journalist Natalie Morris – will be published on 26th October 2023.
The publisher says: “Leigh-Anne Pinnock’s life changed overnight when she became a member of multi-platinum selling UK supergroup Little Mix, which went on to become the biggest girl band of all time. Launched into chart-topping global fame, Leigh-Anne was living her childhood dream of becoming a popstar. But behind the scenes, as a Black woman within an industry and team with little diversity, Leigh-Anne was struggling with her identity and felt completely lost.
"Leigh-Anne fronted the BBC documentary ‘Race, Pop and Power’, where she confronts those closest to her and attempts to bring difficult conversations about Black representation right to the top of the music industry. In this documentary, she exposes the racial inequality and prejudices that exist in the music industry as she shares her personal experiences as a Black woman in the industry while also opening up the conversation to other Black women in pop.
“In her highly anticipated memoir, Leigh-Anne continues the conversation as she shares her journey from growing up in a mixed-race family in Britain to taking the pop world by storm. Honest and direct, she reveals the challenges and prejudices that stood in her path and how she overcame them by embracing her own power.”
