Eriu, the Dublin-based imprint of Bonnier Books UK’s Black & White Publishing Group, has snapped up The Husband Whisperer by Caroline Madden.
Publishing director Deirdre Nolan acquired UK and Commonwealth rights in a pre-empt from Kesia Lupo at The Bindery Agency. North American rights were acquired at auction by Nicole Luongo at Park Lane Books, a division of HarperCollins. Film rights are represented by CAA and translation rights by ILA. The book will be published on 24th April 2025 in trade paperback, e-book and audiobook.
“The Husband Whisperer follows Eliza, whose playwright husband Richard Sheridan has accepted the career opportunity of a lifetime: running a prestigious theatre in Dublin,” the synopsis says. “Eliza plays the role of the supportive wife – uprooting their daughter Mara, relocating from England to Dublin, running the household and managing Richard’s paperwork – but inside, she’s burning with resentment.”
Madden said: “Since Eriu launched in the Irish market, I have been struck by the beauty and quality of each and every book published by this exciting new imprint. So, it’s a genuine pinch-me moment to know that my debut novel The Husband Whisperer, the writing project that kept me sane during the pandemic, has found a home with Deirdre and the Eriu team.”
Nolan added: “Ever since the mysterious Ms Early first crossed my desk I’ve been captivated by the compelling, hilarious, clever story of a disintegrating marriage and a wife’s desperate attempts to save it. Caroline Madden is a remarkable novelist, and this book firmly places her in the company of great Irish witty observational writers such as Marian Keyes and Sharon Horgan.”
