Europa Editions has acquired a new novel by Saleem Haddad, the author of Guapa (Europa Editions), which won the Polari First Book Prize 2017.
Michael Reynolds and Millie Guille bought world English rights, on an exclusive submission, to Floodlines from Anjali Singh at The Anjali Singh Agency, and the book is scheduled to be Europa’s lead title for Spring 2026.
Floodlines is described as a "sweeping, multi-generational novel" about three estranged Iraqi-British sisters who are grappling with "the legacies of war, exile and family secrets".
"Floodlines beautifully and seamlessly intertwines a multitude of themes, from living as an artist to living in exile, from the long afterlife of trauma to queerness and the climate crisis," Singh said. "It’s an emotionally wrenching novel full of complex women characters that also transports us to the long-lost Iraq of the 1950s and Iraq today. It’s a fitting and wildly ambitious successor to Guapa, and a perfect novel for today."
Guille added: "Through his depiction of Iraq and the Baghdad Modern Art Group, Saleem writes about exile, queerness, and the disruptive legacies of (neo)colonialism in haunting, visceral prose."
