Europa Editions has scooped the first novel from Grant Morrison titled Luda, a "phantasmagorical epic" set in the dream city of "Gasglow".
Editorial director Christopher Potter acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein on behalf of Peter McGuigan at Ultra Literary. The book has already been published in the US by Del Rey and will be published by Europa in October 2023.
Morrison is known for working on comics and is the author of Batman: Arkham Asylum (DC Comics) among others.
Luda follows a drag queen who becomes obsessed with her mysterious young rival — "an occultist or a murderer, or the greatest star of all".
Potter said: “Luda is unlike any other novel I’ve ever acquired, or indeed ever read: an unforgettable and unputdownable page-turner, and a wild ride. I loved it.”
Morrison added: “I’m delighted to have my first novel Luda published by Europa Editions in the UK and Ireland. The book feels very much at home on Europa’s cosmopolitan, idiosyncratic and luminously noir list. I look forward to working with Christopher Potter and his team to unleash the seductive force of unnature that is Luda.”
