Chelsea Green Publishing has sold French and German rights to Extinction Rebellion co-founder Roger Hallam’s climate manifesto, with “strong international interest”.
Hallam signed a deal with Chelsea Green from his cell at Wormwood Scrubs earlier this month; in September he was charged with conspiring to cause disruption at Heathrow Airport, in protest at its controversial plans to build a third runway. The publisher, which scooped world rights (excluding UK and Australia) will rush-release Hallam’s Common Sense for the 21st Century on 14th November.
Chelsea Green rights director Eliza Haun told The Bookseller there has been “strong international interest”. Suyapa Hammje, acquiring editor from Tana in France, pre-empted the book for a five-figure sum during the fair; in Germany, Julia Janicke snapped up the rights for Ullstein.
