Eye Books has signed an updated version of foreign correspondent Rosalind Russell’s "gripping" book, The End of Where We Begin.
Publisher Dan Hiscocks acquired world rights directly from the author. The revised edition will be published in paperback and e-book in October 2023.
The End of Where We Begin won the Moore Prize for human rights writing after it was originally published by Durham-based independent press Impress in 2020. Eye Books acquired the rights after Impress closed in 2022. The book follows the lives of three refugees from conflict with the new edition bringing the stories "up to date".
Russell has worked has worked as a foreign correspondent for Reuters and the Independent in east Africa, the Middle East and Asia and now currently works for the Evening Standard in London. She commented: "I’m so delighted that the team at Eye Books is giving new life to The End of Where We Begin so that the stories of these extraordinary, brave young people can reach a fresh audience of readers."
Hiscocks said: "We were offered this page-turning story the first time round but missed out. Another publisher did a great job with it, securing a prestigious prize win. While we’re always saddened to see a fellow indie publisher fold, we’re glad to have been able to pick up the rights and publish a new edition of The End of Where We Begin in a year when this part of Africa has led the headlines."
