Storm has acquired the début historical novel of Faber Academy graduate Annabelle Marx, The Lost Garden of Ardbray House.
Deputy managing director Claire Bord acquired world English language rights from Jenny Brown of Jenny Brown Associates. It will be published in e-book, paperback and audio on 26th October 2023.
The Lost Garden of Ardbray House, set in the remote Scottish Highlands and Glasgow in the early 19th century and present day, tells the story of herbalist Kitty Maclean and the mystery of the house she inhabited.
Marx said: “I am thrilled that Storm will be publishing my début novel and truly excited to be working with Claire and her team. Their combination of experience and start-up energy is just what I was hoping for at the beginning of my publishing journey.
“The story of Kitty Maclean is one that wouldn’t sit still in my head after spending long periods of time in the Highlands and was inspired by the hills, the history and the people who live there – I just had to write it. And now I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to let others meet Kitty.”
Bord commented: “As soon as I started reading Annabelle’s novel, I was transported to the wild and beautiful Scottish Highlands and intrigued by the mystery of Ardbray House. Annabelle’s writing is atmospheric, rich in detail and so evocative. I can’t wait for readers to discover Kitty’s extraordinary story. It’s the perfect book to curl up with this autumn.”
