Faber has acquired Lauren Working’s "perspective-shifting history of the Renaissance" in a seven-way auction.
UK & Commonwealth rights to A Golden World – a new history of how the Americas transformed early modern England – were acquired by Fiona Crosby, senior commissioning editor, from Emma Bal at Madeleine Milburn Agency. Pegasus will publish in the US.
Working, a lecturer in Early Modern Studies at the University of York, said: "For a long time, tales of Tudor and Stuart colonialism have been about the English going out and leaving their mark on the world, rather than the Americas coming in. I couldn’t be more excited to publish with Faber, who understood from the start that a book about Elizabeth I could also be about Caribbean roots and Mexican cacti, indigenous knowledge-holders and Andean silver."
Crosby, senior commissioning editor, said: "A Golden World is a perspective-shifting history of the Renaissance. Lauren’s immersive storytelling and original eye for detail makes her an exciting new voice in this field."
A Golden World will be published in hardback in spring 2026.
