Faber has acquired a new middle-grade trilogy, starting with The Thief of Farrowfell, from Ravena Guron.
Leah Thaxton acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Alice Sutherland-Hawes at ASH Literary. The Thief of Farrowfell will publish in paperback on 4th May.
The publisher described the book as a magical fantasy set in a world where edible magic is the hottest commodity. It is traded between those who can pay or, in the case of Jude Ripon, the youngest thief in Farrowfell, those who can steal it!
Guron said: “I’m delighted Jude has found a home with Faber. I’ve always loved reading about morally grey characters and had so much fun writing Jude—a scrappy, determined thief who would never consider herself a hero and lives in Farrowfell, a world where magic is edible, tradeable and stealable. The team at Faber have been so enthusiastic about this story from day one and I’m beyond excited to be bringing the Farrowfell series into the world with them.”
Sutherland-Hawes said: “Ravena was one of the first new authors I signed to ASH Literary, immediately capturing my imagination with her cinematic, witty writing and brilliant characters. The Thief of Farrowfell was also one of the first books sold, making it a very special book for the agency, and to such a brilliant team who fell for Jude and her world the way I did.’
Alice Swan, editorial director at Faber and Faber, said: “We are so delighted to be welcoming such a new and exciting author to our list. The Thief of Farrowfell is the first instalment in an epic, edge-of-your-seat adventure set in an irresistible magical world. Young readers are bound to become obsessed with this one."
The Thief of Farrowfell was shortlisted for Penguin’s WriteNow scheme and was highly commended in the FAB Prize. Ravena’s debut YA novel, This Book Kills, was the first in a two-book deal with Usborne, published this January.
