Faber will publish Emma Carroll’s 10th middle-grade standalone, The Week at World’s End, alongside repackages of her entire backlist in September.
Desribed as a "heart-warming and enthralling thriller", The Week at World's End is told across the seven days during which the Cuban Missile Crisis became public knowledge. The novel will be published in hardback, a first for a middle-grade novel by Carroll, and will be accompanied by an exclusive signed edition for Waterstones, featuring an additional short story, "The World According to Anna".
Leah Thaxton, Faber publisher, has also recently signed a further three books with Carroll, which will see her publish one book a year with Faber up to 2025.
Carroll said: "It's an absolute privilege to be publishing more stories with the brilliant Faber Children's team. I'm so grateful to their vision, support, honesty and energy. Right from the start, they've been fundamental in developing my profile as a writer. I cannot thank my publishing family enough. I'm hugely excited for this next stage in our plans, and to be working with the wonderful Daniela Terrazzini, starting with a stunning new look for The Week At World's End."
Thaxton acquired world rights from Jodie Hodges at United Agents. The Week at World’s End will publish in hardback on 2nd September, alongside repackages of Frost Hollow Hall, The Somerset Tsunami and When We Were Warriors.
Repackages of Secrets of a Sun King, The Girl Who Walked on Air and In Darkling Wood will publish alongside The Week at World’s End paperback in March 2022. Letters from the Lighthouse and Strange Star repackages will publish in September 2022.
Thaxton said: "We are so proud to publish Emma Carroll, a dazzlingly successful author who never fails to delight, thrill and inspire her fans. Emma is one of the most exceptional storytellers of her generation and we could not be more delighted to have secured three more novels for her, nor to launch this irresistible collection of repackages, exquisitely illustrated by Daniela Terrazzini. All hail, Emma Carroll, undisputed Queen of Historical Fiction."
Hodges commented: "A longstanding, creatively exciting and commercially successful publishing relationship is what I’m always hoping for for my clients. Emma and Faber have this, and it feels particularly gratifying in such a competitive middle-grade market. I’m delighted that there will be both new books and refreshed backlist with Faber to enchant and entertain fans and new readers alike."
