Faber has acquired a new anthology of nature poetry from voices of the global majority.
Editor Lavinia Singer acquired world all-languages rights directly from the editors of the anthology, Mona Arshi and Karen McCarthy Woolf. Nature Matters: Vital Poems from the Global Majority will be published on 22nd May 2025.
The synopsis states: "This genre-enriching selection presents new and formative works from the past 50 years that invite us to reconsider nature poetry from global-majority perspectives. It includes an incredible roll-call of poets – including Jason Allen-Paisant, Malika Booker, Kamau Brathwaite, Elizabeth-Jane Burnett, Anthony Vahni Capildeo, Mary Jean Chan, Tishani Doshi, Zaffar Kunial and Derek Walcott – and many specially commissioned poems."
Singer said: "It has been inspiring to work with Mona and Karen on this essential project. Almost 80 poems are included in the anthology – and each one is startlingly imaginative and resonant, emphasising the ways that nature matters to us all."
Arshi and Woolf added: "Nature Matters asks us to think about nature poetry for the 21st century in new and necessary ways. As editors, we wanted to shine a light on global-majority perspectives as a way of opening out the conversation to include voices that have all too often been excluded or overlooked."
