Faber has scooped Parade a "path-breaking" novel about art, womanhood and violence by Rachel Cusk, author of the Outline trilogy (Faber).
Publisher Alex Bowler acquired UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada from Sarah Chalfant at the Wylie Agency, and the book will be published on 6th June 2024.
The synopsis of the book, which "confronts and upends the conventions of storytelling", says: "Midway through his life, an artist begins to paint upside down. In Paris, a woman is attacked by a stranger in the street. A mother dies. Couples seek escape in distant lands.
"Parade sets loose a carousel of lives. It surges past the limits of identity, character, and plot, to tell a true story – about art, family, morality, gender, and how we compose ourselves."
Bowler said: "Parade is the next path-breaking work from a vital writer of the age. As with the Outline trilogy, Rachel Cusk has again unlocked new ground, taking us to the heart of the matter. Parade asks the most powerful questions about the fundamentals of living. It is a novel that will unsteady and inspire."
