Faber has scooped Open Up, "a dazzling, achingly tender" short-story collection from author Thomas Morris, to be published on 17th August 2023.
Associate publisher Louisa Joyner acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Tracy Bohan at the Wylie Agency. "Philosophically acute and strikingly original," the publisher said of the collection: "Thomas Morris powerfully interrogates themes of connection and (dis)connection as he seeks to find grace, hope and benevolence in the churning tumult of self-discovery."
Associate publisher Louisa Joyner said: "This suite of stories from the ludicrously talented pen of Tom Morris, an emotionally acute writer, is a genuinely exciting proposition. In these pages sentences bend and flex to envelop the reader in truths of their character’s experience. Tom is a master storyteller and the world is in for a treat."
Morris’s debut story collection, We Don’t Know What We’re Doing (Faber & Faber), won the Wales Book of the Year Award, the Rhys Davies Trust Fiction Award and a Somerset Maugham Award. His stories have been published and anthologised in Zoetrope, Best European Fiction 2018 (Dalkey Archive Press) and The Penguin Book of the Contemporary British Short Story (Allen Lane/ Penguin). He lives in Dublin, where he is editor at large at the Stinging Fly.
