Fairfield Books has scooped The Legend of Sparkhill, the debut children’s novel from England cricket player Moeen Ali, illustrated by Jen Khatun.
Publisher Matt Thacker acquired world English rights from Charlie Campbell at Greyhound Literary. The book will be published on 7th July 2022.
The synopsis reads: "Twelve-year-old Mo Aqeel lives for cricket, and this is the story of how his cricket club manages to beat the odds and make the final. When practice clashes with his Arabic class at the mosque, young Mo has to take drastic action to fulfil his destiny…"
The Legend of Sparkhill focuses on universal themes, effecting people of all ages, such as religion, racism, bullying, equality and diversity. Ali said: "Cricket is a game that can bring kids of all cultures and backgrounds together, teaching them vital life skills, and I hope that my book, The Legend of Sparkhill, inspires young boys and girls to fulfil their dreams.”
