Fairlight Books has snapped up two "powerful" novels, Dancing in the Shallows by Clare Reddaway and Small Wars in Madrid by Anthony Ferner.
Editor Laura Shanahan and assistant editor Sarah Shaw acquired world rights, including audio, directly from the authors. Both books will be published in spring 2024.
Reddaway’s debut novel Dancing in the Shallows is a "masterful" exploration of family relationships and generational inheritance. It follows Isla Wintergreen who inherits her grandfather’s cottage on the Isle of Skye and learns more about her family history as she becomes part of the island community.
Small Wars in Madrid by Ferner follows David Aguilera who may lose everything after a naval vessel under his command is lost. He turns to his closest friend, adoptive mother, birth mother and estranged wife "to confront his conflicting identities and decide the man he wants to become".
Both novels will join the Fairlight Moderns series, a collection of pocket-sized contemporary short novels originally launched in 2018.
