Farrago, an imprint of Duckworth Books, has acquired world rights from author and poet Isabel Rogers for Continental Riff, the third title in the Stockwell Park Orchestra series.
The series follows the misadventures of an amateur south London orchestra. The first two books in the series, Life, Death and Cellos and Bold as Brass were published by Farrago in 2019.
In Continental Riff, which will be published in January 2021, the orchestra will go on a week-long European tour. A teenage stowaway, brass players falling in canals and a sabotaged timpani van are all in a day’s work for the tour organiser, Ingrid Bauer.
Pete Duncan, publisher, said: "The world that Isabel Rogers evinces so warmly is one that we’ve all simply overlooked. The hotbed world of classical music! Who knew?"
Rogers commented: "Thank you to Farrago for letting me unleash this third book, which takes my musicians out of London and throws them into a Bruckner festival in Cologne, via Bruges and Amsterdam. Nobody who has toured with brass players will be surprised at anything. We have a solo horn player who looks like Chris Hemsworth, for heaven’s sake. Not that I’m casting for the movie or anything. Strap in."
