Farshore has scooped a three-book deal with Jenny McLachlan for three novels set in the "magical" middle-grade series The Land of Roar.
World rights were acquired by Liz Sellen-Bankes, editorial director, from Julia Churchill at A M Heath. Dragon Riders of Roar, the first book in the deal, will be published on 1st August and supported by a "major" marketing and PR campaign. The second and third books will follow in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
This year marks the fifth anniversary since The Land of Roar, the first book in the series, was originally published. Dragon Riders of Roar will bring back characters from the original series and follow Arthur, Rose and Win who join a school for dragon riders in a new realm of Roar. They must protect Roar "from the dangers of the Deeps".
McLachlan commented: "The Land of Roar is my ultimate happy place, so I want to say a big thank you to Farshore for letting me return there with Dragon Riders of Roar, a story that is utterly alive in my imagination. Roar fans will join Rose and Arthur on their wildest trip yet, and new readers will discover the magic of Roar. When they crawl through the camp bed they’ll find a world full of adventure, laughter, friends and huge dragons, where children are the champions and absolutely anything can happen. I’m rubbing my hands with glee."
Sellen-Bankes added: "Working with the incredibly talented, funny and magical Jenny McLachlan and seeing The Land of Roar take the world by storm has been a wonderful journey and a privilege – and five years since we were all swept away by this epic imaginary world feels like the perfect time for a new adventure. We’re so excited to introduce a new era of Roar, building on the series’ incredible bestselling success while also bringing something new to the market. These books will welcome in new readers as well as delighting Roar fans, truly offering something for everyone – and we can’t wait for children everywhere to discover the world of the Dragon Riders."
