Farshore has gobbled up two more books in The Beast and the Bethany series, written by Jack Meggitt-Phillips and illustrated by Isabelle Follath.
Lindsey Heaven, publishing director, acquired world rights to two books from Charlotte Colwill on behalf of Rachel Mann at The Jo Unwin Literary Agency. The first of the new titles, The Beast and the Bethany: Child of the Beast, will publish in October 2023 followed by another in October 2024.
The series follows the badly behaved 511-year-old Ebenezer Tweezer and notorious prankster Bethany. Farshore’s rights team have secured 32 language deals in the series. Warner Brothers recently landed the film adaptation rights, with David Heyman, the producer behind "Wonka", "Harry Potter" and "Paddington", on board.
Meggitt-Phillips said: “Without wanting to sound too vomity about things, it has been quite literally a dream come true to work with Isabelle and everyone at Farshore to bring these dribbling, stinking books into the world. The beast, the Bethany and I are cackling with glee about what the next two books hold in store.”
Lucy Courtenay, managing editor, added: “I am thrilled and mildly scared that the beast will be back with Farshore in two more hilarious adventures with Ebenezer and Bethany. We’re delighted to keep building this comedy powerhouse of a writer in the middle-grade space, and championing Jack Meggitt-Phillips as the true heir to Dahl and Snicket. So prepare to be eaten. I mean, wildly amused. Not eaten at all.”
