Farshore has landed five new books in the bestselling Last Kids on Earth series written by Max Brallier and illustrated by Douglas Holgate, which has been adapted into a major animated show for Netflix.
Lindsey Heaven, publishing director, bought UK rights from Kim Ryan at Penguin Random House US. The monster adventure series follows underdog Jack Sullivan on his mission to become a post-apocalyptic action hero. The deal includes the eighth instalment of Jack’s adventures, The Last Kids on Earth: The Forbidden Fortress, which will publish globally in September 2022.
In the UK it will launch alongside two spin-off novels, The Last Kids on Earth: June’s Wild Flight and The Last Kids on Earth: Quint and Dirk’s Hero Quest, which star Jack’s best friends June Del Toro, Quint Baker and Dirk Savage as they go on their own zombie-filled, monster-bashing adventures.
Farshore also bought two full-colour graphic novel adventures in the brand-new Last Comics on Earth series. The first book launches in spring 2023 and capitalises on the rise in demand for graphic novels, providing another entry point for new fans into the Last Kids universe.
Heaven said: “We’re thrilled to be making this major investment in the global mega-brand that is The Last Kids on Earth. This brilliantly funny, accessible and exciting series has already captured the imaginations and hearts of children all over the world, and with a new book, spin-offs and full-colour graphic novel formats all to come, we can’t wait for the series to reach even more young readers.”
Brallier added: “I’m incredibly excited to be expanding the world of The Last Kids on Earth – and to do it with something that’s very different from the main series, but still feels true to the characters and world. The Last Comics on Earth is a goofy, silly, action-packed graphic novel adventure – loaded with amazing art from Doug Holgate and Jay Cooper — and I hope kids have just as much fun reading it as Joshua and I had writing it.”
Joshua Pruett, who is co-authoring the Last Comics on Earth graphic novel series, also commented: “Even before writing for the Netflix series, I was a fan of the Last Kids on Earth and the world and characters Max and Doug had brought to life. Getting to play in their monster and zombie-filled sandbox again is an absolute dream come true. With the wild and wacky story Max and I put together, as realized by Doug and the force of nature that is fellow comics geek Jay Cooper, The Last Comics on Earth is jam-packed with outrageous adventure and big laughs for both new and die-hard Last Kids fans, realized in a way that only a ginormous, full colour graphic novel could deliver.”
