Farshore has scooped author-illustrator Alison Brown’s “joyfully inclusive” picture book celebrating mothers of all kinds, as part of a six-book deal.
Melissa Fairley, publishing director, signed world rights from Hannah Whitty of Plum Pudding Illustration. The first book, Amazing Mum, will launch in February 2023. It is described by the publisher as "a pitch-perfect rhyming story, ditching outdated stereotypes for an inclusive celebration of all mothers, their special talents and unique identities, perfect for families to share together on Mother’s Day and year-round".
Brown said: “I have often noticed how humour can help to express big feelings. My aim is to explore themes of love, family and friendship through the quirkiness and uniqueness of individual relationships. It has been brilliant working with Melissa and all the team on my first title with Farshore and I’m very excited about our future books together. I hope that they are going to be shared, cuddled up with and giggled over.”
Brown has previously published books with Little Tiger Press, Bloomsbury, Oxford University Press, Simon & Schuster USA and Hinkler.
Fairley said: “Alison’s brand of warm, quirky humour and irresistible characters is a firm favourite with children and their parents and the perfect fit for the Farshore list. This ambitious programme will see Alison becoming one of our key author-illustrators in the years to come.”
Whitty added: “I’m delighted that this amazing, inclusive picture book has found its home with the talented Farshore team. Alison is one of those remarkable author-illustrators who never ceases to surprise and delight with her perpetual inventiveness and creativity. I know we can expect great things from this brilliant author/illustrator and publisher pairing.”
