Farshore has seized Alexander Armstrong’s "dazzling" debut children’s novel Evenfall: The Golden Linnet, the first in the Evenfall series.
Publishing director Lindsey Heaven and editorial director Sarah Levison acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for two books from Claire Wilson, director at the RCW Literary Agency. Evenfall: The Golden Linnet will be published with an "unmissable" PR and marketing campaign as a "super-lead" title in April 2024. The second book will follow in 2025.
Actor, writer, comedian and presenter Armstrong is known for appearances on "Doctor Who", "Horrible Histories" and "Have I Got News For You" and as host of Classic FM morning show. He said: "I’m so delighted that my debut children’s fiction series has found its home at Farshore. Right from the start the team’s vision, creativity and ambition for the series has aligned absolutely with my own and I’m beyond thrilled that readers will be joining me on this adventure next year!"
The synopsis for Evenfall: The Golden Linnet reads: "Sam is soon to discover that he is part of an ancient, secret society: an order of quiet heroes who protected the world. For decades, the Order of the Evening has lain dormant, all but wiped out by those threatened by its existence. But now the Order must rise again. For at its heart lies a powerful magic; magic that, in the wrong hands, has the power to destroy the world. And an age-old enemy is closing in..."
"Bequeathed with the mysterious seal of the Golden Linnet, Sam must uncover family secrets, face deadly foes and undertake perilous journeys. He will find allies in the most unlikely of places and learn to unlock his true powers."
Levison commented: "I am absolutely delighted to welcome Alexander to the award-winning and bestselling Farshore list. Evenfall: The Golden Linnet is a truly epic coming-of-age tale that seamlessly blends history, myths and magic alongside action and adventure. Alexander’s proven way with words on screen translates masterfully to his middle-grade writing and his dedication to the craft of storytelling is second-to-none. We can’t wait for readers to enter the world of Evenfall in spring 2024."
