Farshore has signed Cross My Heart and Never Lie and Save Our Forest!, two standalone full-colour graphic novels from Norwegian author-illustrator Nora Dåsnes.
UK and Commonwealth rights were bought by senior commissioning editor Lucy Courtenay from Imogen Bovill at Abner Stein. Cross My Heart and Never Lie will publish in February 2024 with Save Our Forest! following in 2025.
Cross My Heart and Never Lie is Dåsnes’ debut. It has been translated into 10 languages, having already been published in the US with Hippo Park, an imprint of Astra Books, in September 2023. The graphic novel follows Tuva as she starts seventh grade but "nothing is how she hoped it would be". "Seventh grade has split her friends into rival factions: the girls who fall in love and the girls who are still playing. And Tuva is expected to choose a side! Then Mariam shows up and suddenly things begin to make a little more sense. But with all her friends fighting, this is one part of growing up that Tuva isn’t quite sure how to share," the publisher teased.
The second book in the deal, Save Our Forests!, expands the world established in Cross My Heart and Never Lie and sees Bao trying to save the forest close to their school.
Dåsnes commented: "I am beyond happy that my debut book is going to be published by Farshore in the UK. My formative drawing and storytelling years were spent in the UK, and the lovely team at Farshore really makes it feel like coming home. I hope Cross My Heart and Never Lie finds its way to the graphic novel shelves I used to browse myself, and to the hands of the kids who need Tuva’s story."
Courtenay added: “I adore everything about Tuva, Linnéa and Bao in this delicious, hand-lettered diary-style graphic novel about first crushes and friendships. With its full-colour palette and gorgeous grasp of coming-of-age dilemmas and emotions, it’s going to grab everyone by the heartstrings and pull! Nora is a miraculous talent and I can’t wait to see this exquisite debut on our fabulous Farshore list.”
