Farshore has snapped up the follow-up to the New York Times-bestselling novel Blackout, which is in development as a TV and film project for Netflix, produced by the Obamas’ production company Higher Ground and Temple Hill.
Liz Bankes, editorial director, bought UK and Commonwealth rights for Whiteout from Molly Ker Hawn at The Bent Agency. It will publish under the YA imprint Electric Monkey on 10th November 2022.
Whiteout is again written by award-winning authors Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk and Nicola Yoon. It follows a group of Black teens in Atlanta, which is blanketed in snow after a storm of “colossal proportions” just before Christmas. The teens, who reflect a diverse range of identities and experiences, band together to help a friend pull off the most epic apology of her life. With the city frozen in place and everyone sprinkled across the city, will the teens be able to make it happen?
The authors said: “We’re thrilled to be working together again, bringing a new novel full of Black love to Black teens. And what better theme to explore in our second novel together than second chance love? As we did with Blackout, Whiteout will celebrate queer kids, Afro-Latinx kids, and even more cultural diversity from across the African diaspora. We can’t wait for the world to see that Black kids and Black love stories are as unique as snowflakes.”
Lindsey Heaven, fiction publishing director at Farshore, said: “To be able to publish six powerhouse YA authors once last summer, with the magnificently romantic novel Blackout, was such a privilege. To be able to follow up with its wintery and dreamy sequel, Whiteout, is a complete joy. Together with our sister company HarperCollins US, we’re thrilled to be bringing Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk and Nicola Yoon’s story of Black teen love to their massive global fanbase once more.”
