Farshore has snapped up two more books from "Queen of Horror for kids" Jennifer Killick.
Sarah Levison, editorial director, acquired world rights for two more books in the Dread Wood comedy horror series from Kirsty McLachlan at Morgan Green Creatives.
The first book in the series Dread Wood, launched in April, was picked as a Book of the Month in the Week Junior and a best book for Easter in the i and Irish Independent. The publisher has since accelerated the series publishing schedule to meet demand, launching a new book every six months and bringing forward the publication date of Killick’s next book, Dread Wood: Fear Ground.
Levison said: “We’re thrilled to see the success of our ambitious plans to build Jennifer Killick into the biggest name in middle-grade comedy-horror and to be able to bring more of Jennifer’s pitch-perfect, make-you-jump, make-you-laugh, must-share-with-your-friends, books to the world!”
Killick moved to Farshore in 2021 from Firefly, following the success of her Crater Lake series. She is engaged with the teacher and librarian community and was selected by Cheltenham Literary Festival for its Reading Teacher Reading Pupils literacy programme. She also participated in Farshore’s Reading for Pleasure Book Club in partnership with Collins this term and did more than 300 school events in the past two years.
She said: “I have loved working on the Dread Wood series with the team at Farshore, so I’m over the moon to be writing another two books. I can’t wait to put Angelo and the gang into more horrifying situations and laugh along with them as they battle some gruesome and creepy enemies. I’m so grateful to my agent, Kirsty McLachlan, and my Farshore family for believing in me and Club Loser.”
