Fern Press, an imprint of Vintage, has acquired The World after Gaza — a treatise on Gaza, colonialism and the Shoah by Pankaj Mishra.
UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada and India, were bought by Fern Press from Peter Straus at RCW Literary Agency. The World after Gaza will publish on 6th February 2025. Rights have sold in the US, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and India.
According to Fern Press, The World after Gaza takes the war in the Middle East and the bitterly polarised reaction to it within, as well as outside, the West, as the starting point for a "broad re-evaluation of two competing narratives of the last century: the West’s triumphant account of victory over Nazi and communist totalitarianism and the spread of liberal capitalism, and the ‘darker peoples’, in W E B Du Bois’s words, frequently thwarted vision of racial equality".
The publisher said: "The World after Gaza is an urgent and powerful reckoning with one of the most seismic and catastrophic conflicts of our times. Incisive, thought-provoking and deeply moving, it provides a new understanding and critically important historical and cultural lens on the Israel-Hamas war by one of the most important thinkers at work today."
Mishra says: "I am really grateful to have such engaged and astute publishing allies in the joint struggle to understand our turbulent and distressing time."
Mishra is the author of Age of Anger: A History of the Present, From the Ruins of Empire, Run and Hide and several other books.
The World after Gaza will be published on 6th February 2025.
