Transworld has announced Sophie Kinsella will return to her bestselling Shopaholic series with her first festive title, Christmas Shopaholic, to be published in October 2019, four years after the last instalment.
The book will feature Kinsella’s much-loved character Becky Bloomwood, first seen in the 2000 bestseller The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic which was made into a film in 2009, starring Isla Fisher. Christmas Shopaholic will be the eighth Becky Bloomwood novel, following the last novel, Shopaholic to the Rescue, in 2015. Transworld’s m.d. Larry Finlay acquired British Commonwealth rights from Araminta Whitley at The Soho Agency.
“Details are under wraps”, Transworld said, “but fans can expect all the humour, charm and classic misadventures they have come to love about the Shopaholic series. Along with the return of Becky, the novel will feature many of the series’ original characters, including Luke, Suze, Tarquin, Jess and Minnie – but this time with a festive twist.”
Finlay commented on the deal: "We couldn’t be happier to be bringing a new Shopaholic novel to Sophie Kinsella’s loyal readers this Christmas. Twenty years after she first burst into our lives, the inimitable Becky Bloomwood is back. Christmas Shopaholic is the ultimate festive read – showcasing Sophie’s trademark humour, fun and warmth – and we are so excited to publish this October."
Kinsella said: "I’m thrilled to be returning to the world of Becky Bloomwood and can’t wait to share the next instalment of her story with my readers. Becky is so close to my heart and I can’t believe it’s been twenty years since she first popped into my mind, credit card and shopping bags in hand.
"When I meet readers I’m often asked ‘when’s the next Shopaholic book coming?’ and it feels great to finally be able to say, 'Becky’s back!'’
