Fig Tree has scooped a “brilliantly fresh” début novel by Roxy Dunn in a four-way auction.
Helen Garnons-Williams, publishing director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to As Young As This, from Cara Lee Simpson at PFD. It will publish in spring 2024.
The synopsis says: “Since the age of 17, Margot has navigated her way in and out of relationships, honing her search for a compatible partner: someone she sparks and connects with who will provide the stability she’s witnessed in her parents’ marriage, and father the children she’s always imagined in her future. So how is it that after almost two decades of dating, she now finds herself single at 34 on the evening before an appointment that will see her embarking on a whole new narrative?”
Dunn said: “I’m so delighted by the enthusiasm the book has been met with. The way the team at Fig Tree have connected with Margot and her story has gone beyond my expectations and into the realm of any writer’s fantasy.”
Garnons-Williams added: “There’s a magic to Roxy’s novel, which was gloriously apparent from the blizzard of excited responses that filled up my inbox after I first circulated it to the Fig Tree team. It is a remarkable, sharply observed and warm-hearted début and Margot is an unforgettable character. As she maps the course of her life through the partners she’s met along the way, we root for her – and relate to her – with every step.”
