Flying Eye Books has landed Hilda and Twig: Hide From the Rain, a “brilliant” graphic novel from Luke Pearson.
Creative director Sam Arthur acquired world rights directly from the author for publication on 7th November 2024. Hilda and Twig will be supported by an “extensive” marketing campaign “with covetable point of sale, an interactive digital campaign and exciting in-store activities for bookshops and libraries”.
Hilda and Twig sees the return of titular character Hilda and her friend Twig, a deer-fox companion, as they embark on new adventures. Pearson has previously written six graphic novels featuring Hilda, beginning with Hilda and the Troll, reissued by Flying Eye Books in 2013. Unlike the previous graphic novels, Hilda and the Twig is not set in Trolberg and delves into the character of Twig.
Fay Evans, editorial director, said: “We’re so excited for everyone to read all about Hilda and Twig’s many adventures before they moved to Trolberg.”
The synopsis for Hilda and Twig reads: “Hilda and Twig would never let a bit of rain get in the way of an adventure, but it’s different when your forest exploration is interrupted by a big storm. Sheltering in a mysterious mound in the earth, Twig quickly realises that trouble is afoot, and that his best blue-haired friend is in danger. Unfortunately, he’s never really thought of himself as the brave one, but it looks like he’s going to have to step up and save Hilda from a whole load of big, scaly trouble. Dive into this magical comic as we follow our lovable pair on a soggy adventure.”
Harry Gwinner, c.e.o, said: “After six brilliant graphic novels, we are so excited to support Luke in bringing to life more thrilling adventures with Hilda and Twig.”
